Miranda Castle, also known as the Château de Noisy, is one of the most iconic abandoned buildings in Europe.
Located in Celles, in the Namur region of Belgium, this neo-Gothic architectural gem has fascinated urbex explorers for decades.
Behind its pointed towers and shattered stained glass windows lies a story of royalty, war, and decay.
Let’s uncover why Miranda Castle became a legend of urban exploration before its demolition in 2017.
📜 The history of Miranda Castle
Built in 1866 by architect Edward Milner, the castle was commissioned by the Liedekerke-Beaufort family — one of Belgium’s noble lineages.
It replaced their former home, Vêves Castle, which had been seized during the French Revolution.
The castle featured:
- over 500 windows,
- a 56-meter central tower,
- and an incredible carved wooden staircase.
During World War II, it was occupied by German forces, then transformed into a summer camp for railway workers’ children in the 1950s.
In 1991, the owners ceased maintenance, and the estate fell into ruin.
🏚️ A worldwide urbex icon
The Château de Noisy became a true urbex legend — a symbol of forgotten beauty.
Explorers and photographers from all over the world came to capture its decaying halls, broken ceilings, and majestic staircases.

⚠️ In October 2017, the castle was fully demolished, despite preservation efforts and petitions.
Today, only the foundations remain, hidden under the forest floor.
