Why share your exploration?

A recent photo or a detailed review can make all the difference to someone discovering a place. Your contributions help the community learn more about spots and their condition.

By sharing your experience, you help every explorer prepare for their discoveries and enjoy the best possible experience on MapUrbex. Your help is rewarded with credits, which you can exchange for the rewards of your choice.

You don’t need to be a photographer or write a long review: what matters is being helpful and genuine.

What makes a good contribution?

Find the relevant spot on MapUrbex, then share your photos and review.

Clear photos you’ve taken yourself

Choose images you took yourself. Show the place, an interesting detail or its condition when you visited. Choose complementary angles rather than several nearly identical photos.

A short but specific review

Describe what you observed: the atmosphere, noteworthy features or changes you noticed. Mention when you visited if it helps put your review in context.

“Visited in September. The main hall still contains its old machinery. Some rooms are in poor condition: my photos show what the place looked like during my visit.”

How many credits can you earn?

The rarer the spot, the more credits your contribution can earn. Here’s the total you can earn for a complete contribution with photos and a review, once approved and excluding bonuses:

Photos account for the largest share of a contribution’s credits. Remember to include clear, useful photos you’ve taken yourself alongside your review: they help fellow explorers and let you make the most of the credits on offer.

New spots, new opportunities to earn

Want to go further? A map gives you access to new spots where you can share your explorations. Choose a map containing rare or epic spots to discover new places and earn more credits through approved contributions.

Buying a map opens up new possibilities: it’s then your helpful photos and reviews, once approved, that earn you credits.

The rules to follow

• Contribute to the right spot. Make sure your photos and review match the place you selected.
• Share your own content. Use your photos and describe your real experience.
• Make it helpful. Avoid duplicates, copied text and made-up information.
• Respect privacy. Don’t share personal documents, and avoid identifiable faces or licence plates.
• Respect the places you visit. Don’t damage anything, follow access restrictions and don’t share advice on getting around a closure.

No amount of credits is worth taking a risk. Never put yourself in danger to get a photo or add detail to a review.

When will you receive your credits?

Every contribution is checked by our system. You receive your credits within 48 hours of submitting, unless your contribution is deemed fraudulent.

This check helps keep information reliable for explorers and rewards honest contributions.

What happens in cases of fraud?

Presenting someone else’s photos as your own, inventing a visit or repeatedly submitting content solely to earn credits goes against the programme.

Fraudulent submissions may result in your credits being removed. Repeated violations may lead to a permanent account ban.

The right approach: share your experience honestly. Don’t try to artificially inflate your contributions.

Why aim for the leaderboard?

The leaderboard highlights explorers who contribute to MapUrbex. Rewards are planned for everyone in the top 10: it’s not just about the podium.

It’s an extra goal: help the community, track your progress and try to win one of the prizes on offer.

How do you read it?

The leaderboard is based on credits counted during the selected period. Check its rules to find out which contributions qualify and how prizes are awarded.

Leaderboard rewards are in addition to those you can get by exchanging your credits.
